Step by step
How to use this tool
The Master Set cuts, reams, bends, and flares in one kit for SAE single and double-inverted flares. Always slide the tube nut on before you flare.
Cut and deburr
Square-cut the tube, ream the inside and chamfer the outside edge. Use the tubing bender to shape the line first if needed.
Slide the nut on
Fit the tube nut before flaring, with the threaded end pointing toward the end of the tube.
Clamp in the bar
Drop the tube into the matching hole in the flaring bar, set the correct height on the beveled side, and tighten both wing nuts.
Set the die
Fit the black flaring die on the tube, place the yoke and cone anvil over it, and tighten until the die contacts the bar.
Fold the flare
Remove the die, place the cone anvil over the raised bubble, and turn down to fold the finished double flare.
Inspect
A good SAE flare looks bell-shaped. Check for cracks or uneven edges before threading the fitting.
Tip: always practice on a scrap piece of tubing first, and slide the tube nut onto the line before flaring — a finished flare won't pass back through the nut.
