How to Choose a Brake Line
Size: 3/16" is standard for most brake circuits; 1/4" appears on longer rear runs and larger trucks. Material: copper-nickel for rust-proof DIY-friendly repairs, stainless for strength and looks, coated steel for OE-style replacement. Flare: American and Asian vehicles typically use SAE double flares; European vehicles use DIN bubble flares — our tubing forms both.
Brake Line FAQ
Can I replace just one brake line?
Yes — a pre-cut line or a partial run from coil stock works. But if one steel line rusted through, inspect the rest; they've lived the same life.
Are copper-nickel brake lines better than steel?
For longevity and ease of installation, yes: copper-nickel never rusts and bends by hand. Coated steel matches OE appearance and costs less.
How do I know which fittings I need?
Match thread size and flare type to your vehicle's ports — see our flare identification guide or start with a fitting assortment.
